How to create a Long, Strong, and Memorable password
Your District 65 account password is shared between your Windows login and your Google (Gmail, Drive, etc.) accounts. To change your account password you must be connected to the District 65 network, either by being on-site (desktop computer or via Wifi) or connected to the GlobalProtect VPN.
To change your password, start by signing in to your computer with your username and password if you're not signed in already.
From any screen, press "control-alt-delete" on your keyboard. The screen will blank out to a solid color and you'll be presented with a number of options. Click "Change a password"
On the next screen, type your current password under "Old password."
Think of a new password. We recommend using this method. New passwords must be 12+ characters in length, and use characters from three of the following four categories:
- Uppercase letters
- Lowercase letters
- Numbers
- Special characters (*$&@^!%:;\|[]{}<>,.?)
Don't use a password you use anywhere else. This will be the password you'll use only to log into your computer, your Google account, and other District 65 systems and services.
Enter the new password twice: under "New password" and "Confirm password." Press return after typing the password twice, or click the right-arrow in the "Confirm password" box to continue.
When successful, you will receive a message, "Your password has been changed." Click "OK" to return to your computer.
After a few minutes, your Chrome browser may alert you that Syncing is Paused and prompt you to sign in again. Please wait at least two minutes to allow the password to update in all the systems it needs to update in, then click the "Paused" icon above, click "Sign-In," and follow the on-screen instructions to sign back in to Chrome. If prompted to "confirm this account is yours," click the option to confirm.
Troubleshooting:
If you get the error "Unable to update the password. The value provided for the new password does not meet the length, complexity, or history requirements of the domain," the new password you chose was not at least 12 characters, did not have a combination of upper and lower case letters, numbers, or symbols in it, and/or was a password you've used before. Try another new password that meets the password criteria.
If you get the error "The user name or password is incorrect. Try again." try reentering your current password.
If you get the error "The passwords you entered did not match." make sure what you typed in "New password" and "Confirm password" matches.
When signing back into Chrome, if you get the error "Your account or password is incorrect. If you don't remember your password, reset it now," wait at least two minutes and enter your new password again.
