Changing your District 65 Account Password from a ChromeBook

Your District 65 account password is shared between your Chromebook login and your Google (Gmail, Drive, etc.) accounts.  To change your account password, click this link from your Chromebook.

If prompted to sign in, enter your email address.

When prompted for your password, enter your existing password.

If prompted to authenticate via Multi-Factor Authentication, use the Microsoft Authenticator app on your mobile device to "Approve" the sign-in attempt.  If you don't use Microsoft Authenticator, use the alternative method you previously chose, such as a hardware token.  

On the next screen, enter your current password under "Old password."

Think of a new password. We recommend using this method.  New passwords must be 12+ characters in length, and use characters from three of the following four categories:

• Uppercase letters
• Lowercase letters
• Numbers
• Special characters (*$&@^!%:;\|[]{}<>,.?)

Don't use a password you use anywhere else. This will be the password you'll use only to log into your Chromebook, your Google account, and other District 65 computers and services.

Enter the new password twice: under "Create new password" and "Confirm new password."  Your Chromebook may suggest a new password, and while it may be a strong password, despite it saying "You won't have to remember it," you will need to remember it. (You'll have to enter it at the login screen, before Chrome's autofill feature becomes available.)  It's best to ignore the suggested password and create your own that adheres to the requirements above and is easier for you to remember.

If the two passwords don't match, you'll get an error.  Once you've entered your password twice, click "Submit." If the password change is successful, you'll see a message that asks you to "Please wait a few minutes."  Shortly after that, you'll see a Google error that your sign-in details are out of date.  Click "Sign Out" at the bottom of the message; this will sign you out of the Chromebook.

Once you're back at the Chromebook login screen, wait a few minutes before attempting to sign in again.  It takes up to three minutes for the new password to propagate.  Once the process has completed, you'll be able to sign back in with the new password you created.

Troubleshooting:

If you receive the error "This password does not meet the length, complexity, age, or history requirements of your corporate password policy," that means the new password you chose was not at least 12 characters, did not have a combination of upper and lower case letters, numbers, or symbols in it, and/or was a password you've used before.  Try another new password that meets the password criteria.

If you can't log in with the new password, make sure you're typing the new password correctly.  If you're certain you are, wait another few minutes. If it still doesn't work after that, you may have inadvertently included an unintended character in your new password, and you may need a password reset.  In this event, please have a coworker submit a support ticket on your behalf, or contact the Help Desk at x4444.
