This video shows a simple way to use a broken headphone connector to extract a headphone tip from the port.
Step by step:
Materials:
- A broken headphone jack with the tip missing. There should be a recess where the tip snapped off.
- An ipad with the tip stil stuck in - the tip is a single metal piece - if you see any bits of plastic, this trick won't work.
- a better option for that kind of headphone obstruction is to use a pin or fine-tipped Xacto knife to push into the plastic and try and extract it that way.
Extraction Technique:
- Firmly nsert the headphone jack.
- Push down and and twist the headphone jack while pulling laterally (to view the extraction technique, this link will jump to that point in the video)
- almost like you're trying to snap off the headphone jack again - don't do this too hard of course
- Maintaining that "lateral pressure", pull the headphone connector out
- The tip should come off with the rest of the headphone jack
Alternative option:
There are also purpose-built headphone extraction tools(amazon link). They work... okay. The technique described above seems to work at least as effectively (and is free). 👍
