π§° A reset(also referred to as "powerwash") can resolve issues where a Chromebook boots to a page that reports that the operating system is damaged.
While the on-screen message mentions needing a recovery USB drive, a recovery drive is not required.
While a powerwash often can resolve the "damaged OS" issue, if this does not get the Chromebook working, please feel free to submit a support ticket to support@district65.net
Powerwash steps
- With the Chromebook connected to power (preferably). Hold the esc, reload (β³), and power keys for a few seconds.
- The Chromebook will reboot into a recovery mode and ask for a USB recovery drive to be inserted (this is not necessary in many cases).
- Press ctrl+D (which will change the screen prompt to the one below) and then press enter. The Chromebook will reboot once more.
- The chromebook will then boot to this rather intense alert page, but do not worry π. Just press enter and the chromebook will reboot yet again, this time into normal setup/welcome mode. π
- The Chromebook will reboot into itβs initial setup mode. Click on the the Continue button.
- If you do not click continue, after about 20 seconds an automated voice will turn on as an accessibility feature, so you may need to mute the computer temporarily.
- Choose D65-Enroll as the wifi network (no password is required to connect to that network) and it will complete enrollment.
- After enrollment is completed you or the user can sign in and see if there are any issues that are persisting.
