Sometimes students' chromebooks wind up in situations where pages do not load or do not display pages correctly. One of the best ways to resolve a lot of these issues is by having the students remove their account from the Chromebook and then sign in again.
Note: Since all of their account information and data is constantly syncing to Google, removing the account does not erase any classwork.
The fastest way to do this
- Have the students hold down Control and Shift, and press QQ (that's press Q twice) to logout.
- Then, on the login screen, they need to press Tab, then Enter twice(once to open the "remove account" option, and then again to select it).
- This will remove the student's account from the Chromebook.
- They can then log in again (the computer itself does not need to restart) using their student ID and password, their chrome cache will be cleared/updated when they do this.
A slightly slower way with the mouse:
- Click on the system tray in the bottom right corner of the screen (where the clock and wifi symbol are.
- Click "sign out".
- On the login screen click on the "⋁" symbol next to the student's name and choose "Remove account". click on remove account
- Then the student should log in again with their studentID and password.

Why this works:
When a user signs into a Chromebook for the first time, ChromeOS (the Chromebook's operating system) loads in a lot of configuration files that it needs every time a user logs in. Those files are only downloaded the first time the student signs in, which allows any subsequent sign in (like after a reboot, etc.) to run much faster. However, over a long enough time, things like caches can become bloated or out of date and the Chromebook won't remove those files unless explicitly forced to.
When a user removes their account from a chromebook, those cache files are removed and will be recreated fresh when they sign in again.
